Effects of Climate Change | local perspective

A mango tree is nearly killed by blight ...

Though any remedy to global warming has a global impact/reach, it is interesting to notice the local trends of global warming effect in Tanzania (East Africa).

Seriously, even a local peasant can tell you that the world has changed. Weather patterns aren’t the same, rain seasons aren’t predictable anymore. Longer dry seasons, too many crop attacking fungus and pesticides. Locals will tell you. "That is not how we used to farm!" Apparently, now, to farm anything successfully, you need to be a rocket scientist!.

In the 1980s to early 2000’s, we never knew anything about bright, maize pesticides. Today, try growing maize, fruit trees, etc without an intimate knowledge of pesticides and fungicides and you are done!

This is a tragedy. If we consider the fact that in third world countries such as Tanzania and with high illiteracy rate and probably most African countries, most farmers are peasants of low income, how are they going to cope with the effects of the global climate change?

Anyone who is serious about Planting Trees or thinking about investing in forestry sector need to think twice about the effect and the cost of protecting the forest from wildfires.
